Make Your New Year Count

This time marks the start of another exciting chapter in our lives! I try and greet every New Year with a good attitude; it’s a good time of year to re-prioritize who you are and where you’re going.

"Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right." –Oprah

The New Year is also about a clean slate and new energy to accomplish those goals after spending the holiday season eating all the wrong foods, sleeping too little and celebrating too much!

2013 allows the opportunity to create the greatest year yet! How you shape your destiny will be determined by the quality of the decisions you make. The most important decision to make is to clear up all negative influences and entities on and around your energy field. Resolutions usually sound impressive but rarely carry follow through. Goals are different. Goals are measurable. Goals carry with them a sense of accountability. Goals are intentional; resolutions are just good intentions.

Feeding your soul, nurturing your spirit and eating health IS the goal!

Moisturize Your Locs

Locs, dreads, dreadlocks. They need moisture, it’s still hair!

It’s that time of year again when winter’s cold dry air, combined with the dryness of indoor heat creates a total loss of moisture for our locs. If your lovelies are color treated, the moisture loss is even worse. No matter how often you wash your locs or keep the roots maintained, they will be dry and can lead to breakage if you don’t moisturize them. How do you plan on keeping your gorgeous locs hydrated and healthy during the harsh winter weather?

Always opt for products that do not clog the pores or cause build-up; avoid balms like beeswax or products that have mineral oil as their base. Moisture and emoliency is absolutely necessary to combat dry, stiff hair and tight, winter scalp.  Our recommendation?   Jane Carter Solution Twist & Lock!

Deck the Halls with Eggnog

Would the Holiday season feel as festive….without Eggnog?

Eggnog, the drink that stirs up memories for most people. You either love it or hate it, but no matter how you feel, it has become embedded in our holiday traditions. If you have tried it and found it to be distasteful maybe you just haven’t had really GOOD eggnog!

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/3  cup white sugar
  • 2.5 cups of milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • a pinch of nutmeg
  • Rum, Bourbon or Brandy (optional)

Directions

  • In a heavy, saucepan, combine eggs, white sugar, and salt; gradually stir in milk. Stirring constantly, cook for 10 to 15 minutes over medium heat, until mixture just coats a metal spoon. Remove from heat, and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Place saucepan over ice water until custard cools, and then refrigerate until chilled.
  • In a chilled bowl, combine heavy cream, confectioners’ sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat until stiff peaks form. Stir in your “optional” liquor of choice. Fold whipped cream mixture into the cooled custard. Pour into serving bowl, and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Serve immediately and enjoy!
