Make Your New Year Count

This time marks the start of another exciting chapter in our lives! I try and greet every New Year with a good attitude; it’s a good time of year to re-prioritize who you are and where you’re going.

"Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right." –Oprah

The New Year is also about a clean slate and new energy to accomplish those goals after spending the holiday season eating all the wrong foods, sleeping too little and celebrating too much!

2013 allows the opportunity to create the greatest year yet! How you shape your destiny will be determined by the quality of the decisions you make. The most important decision to make is to clear up all negative influences and entities on and around your energy field. Resolutions usually sound impressive but rarely carry follow through. Goals are different. Goals are measurable. Goals carry with them a sense of accountability. Goals are intentional; resolutions are just good intentions.

Feeding your soul, nurturing your spirit and eating health IS the goal!

This is the time of the year that we enter into holiday frenzy – fabulous feasts, good company and long-awaited presents. Children may already be finalizing their lists, adding the latest toys, electronics and must-have gadgets.

“Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas.

There’s no time like the holidays to teach your children about the spirit of the season and the “magic” that can be created with small acts of love, kindness and attention. An important part of the holiday season is charitable giving and the learning experiences that come along with it.

  • Give to charity.
  • Watch old movies.
  • Reminisce.
  • Create new memories.
  • Discuss the significance of the holidays with your child.
  • Make holiday treats.
  • Enjoy the crisp winter air.
  • Gather with family and friends.

Make this holiday season a magical one for your family by appreciating together the pleasures it brings…no magic lasts longer than that which you create with family and/or friends.

Q:    How do I protect my curls overnight when I am sleeping?

A: Keeping hair and scalp moisturized is essential to healthy, shiny hair and promotes hair growth. A lack of a night hair regimen can reverse all of the healthy hair efforts you have made during the day! In fact, sleeping is one of the most important times to care for your hair.

Cotton pillow cases and scarves can strip moisture from the hair, cause friction from tossing and turning during sleep and ultimately cause breakage. You can avoid this by lightly misting you hair with Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner, a former winner of the Shecky’s Beauty at its Best Award, it’ll hydrate and close your open (lifted) hair cuticles to lock in moisture.

Silk is the nearest thing to human skin known to man. Unlike cotton, a very absorbent fiber, silk will not absorb natural moisture from hair while you sleep. As an added bonus, stain pillowcases and sheets help to maintain the moisture in your skin, too!

Making the switch from cotton to satin will protect both your curls and your glowing skin from moisture loss and friction.

October is usually known for apple picking, pumpkin pie and the colorful Autumn foliage, but more importantly…it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast cancer is a national health concern. It is the most common cancer among women, and is second only to lung cancer as the leading cause of cancer death in women.  The best way to fight breast cancer is to have a plan that detects the disease in its early stages.

Regularly examining your own breasts allows you to become familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel and can help your more readily detect any changes that may occur. Many women naturally have some lumpiness and asymmetry (differences between the right and left breast). The key to the breast self-exam is to learn how to find changes in the breasts that persist over time.

Parents.com has an amazing post, Breast Self-Exams Made Easy, on how to correctly perform a breast self-examination (BSE) – animated images to ensure proper movement.

Remember to perform your BSE this month!
