Transitioning College Curl Girl

Right after high school graduation is when a young lady starts to find herself, usually starting with her hair. The summer before college is a popular time for big chops and transitioning; don’t send your curly girl off to school without being equipped with the right products.

Help her create a natural hair plan of how she will transition; she did the big chop and will be enhancing her curls, wearing braids, a weave, roller/rod/straw sets twist outs or possibly a combination of them all. What will remain consistent regardless of style will be products that moisturize, hydrate and nourish hair; try the Natural & Transitioning Hair Care Regimen. The focus is to ensure that your hair and scalp remain healthy and moisturized to promote healthy hair growth.

Start her off with what she needs; she can replenish her products online or at a local retailer. Check here for retail store locations and salons. She’ll thank you for it!

Love Your Hair,

The Old Road to Good Hair?

I recently read a blog on Huffington Post regarding the images of natural hair on “popular natural hair forums, blogs, and vlogs, demonstrates an obsessive focus on curl definition”; hence making tightly coiled kinky hair undesirable. Prompted by an Instagram post showing a little girl crying with a caption reading, “That moment you realize you don’t have Tracee Ellis Ross’s hair.” She questioned, is this just the old road to good hair.

The natural hair movement is about freeing yourself, loving who you are and embracing the curls you are give – regardless of the texture; striking down that notion that natural hair is unkempt or even ugly. Could the aspiration for looser, defined curls, rather than an inspiration, be us unconsciously dismissing the idea that tight kinks and coils could also be desirable?

The historical struggle of hair in the black community continues. Let’s discuss…join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter.

Love Your Hair,

Small Acts of Kindness

The holidays are a time for love and cheer, but for those who are struggling they can be a time of stress and sadness. Can you help?

“Many small people, in many small places, do many small things that can alter the face of the world.”

While we get ready to have a wonderful holiday, it’s important to remember that there are many children and families who are unable to have the things we often take for granted at this time of year. This holiday make the season a little brighter for others. Giving back is a great thing to do all year round, but the holidays tend to bring out the charitable side in most people.

There are several organizations which provide toys and gifts to people in need. In this time of economic difficulty, it is especially important to help others if you can.

  • Donate to a charitable organization
  • Invite an elderly neighbor or someone who lives alone to join your celebration
  • Deliver a meal to a family in need
  • Write a thoughtful note to someone special
  • Donate clothes you’ve outgrown
  • Donate food to a local charity or food bank
  • Volunteer at a soup kitchen
  • Send a care package to a soldier
  • Visit hospital patients
  • Foster a dog or cat
  • Join a church or school group that does community service projects

It’s time to spread some holiday cheer!

Add a pea sized amount of Nourish & Shine to a couple of drops of Hair Nourishing Serum in the palm of your hand. Emulsify the two products and apply to your hair. You’ll look fabulous all day long!
