Chop It Up

big_chop_janecartersolutionHave you been contemplating the “big chop” but are instantly stopped in your tracks from a sudden wide range of emotions? You are not alone!

Letting go of your relaxed ends is a major step; this is the “all in” option, similar to sky diving – no turning back. There is no easing in and for many is a pivotal moment as it is immediate, bold and deliberate.

Once you make the decision to stop chemically altering your hair, you need to decide how you’re going to go about it. If you decide to do it and the process of transitioning may require a bit more time than you hoped then the next and quickest route is the big chop. Once you cut away all of your processed hair, you instantly have only one texture to deal with as the chop eliminates the need to work with both your transitioning and previously permed textures.

We here at Jane Carter Solution are here to support you during your journey. Visit our Personalized Hair Care Prescription page for customized product suggestions to suit your hair care and styling needs.

5 Superfoods for Healthy Hair

woman_eating_celeryNo doubt you know that eating healthy is good for you in a plethora of ways—it can decrease your risk of disease, improve your immune system, increase your energy levels and even affect your sleeping habits. You are what you eat…honestly! When it comes to healthy hair, it’s not only what you apply to your hair and scalp, that’s important…but what you put into your body. Hair grows faster and stays healthier when it’s nourished by a well-rounded diet full of unprocessed foods; this includes foods high in protein, zinc, calcium, and vitamins A, B and C, and Omega 3 oils.

Here are the top 5 Foods that you should add to your diet:

1. Whole Grains
Pantothenic acid, folic acid, Niacin, B6 and B12 all contribute to the stimulation of hair follicles; stimulated follicles grow healthy, shiny, strong hair by increasing circulation.

2. Salmon
Salmon provides omega-3 fatty acids, which your body requires in order to grow healthy hair and keep it from becoming brittle. Not a fan of fish? Try adding walnuts, avocado, pumpkin seeds to your diet.

3. Oysters
Foods rich in antioxidants, zinc, and selenium help the body repair damaged hair as well as strengthen follicles; add shellfish, legumes, and red meat to your diet.

4. Eggs
Eggs are also a great source of protein, the main component of your locks. Mixed nuts, Swiss chard, and halibut are other good choices.

5. Lentils
In addition to protein, zinc, and biotin, legumes contain iron. This mineral helps with circulation to ensure that your hair follicles are well supplied with oxygen.

To get your hair back to a healthy state when it’s been dried, fried, dyed and neglected – you’ll need strengthening and hydrating conditioners like Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner and Hydrate Quench to back up your healthy eating.

Steam Time: How to Steam Your Hair for Added Moisture

The “moisture” in every moisturizing product is water; the goal is for the product to deliver water. Enhance the moisture that your hair receives through steaming!

steam

There are many benefits to steam; great way to get moisture into low porosity coarse hair, increases moisture levels in the scalp to diminish dandruff, prevents shrinkage and increases blood flow to the scalp promoting hair growth. Most people steam because it’s a great way to open up the hair follicles to receive all the benefits of deep conditioning treatments.

You can start steaming right now, at home easily. Start with freshly washed hair that has been detangled, generously apply Jane Carter Solution Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner and follow the steps below:

  1. Soak a clean towel under water.
  2. Place wet towel in microwave for 2 minutes or until very warm.
  3. Wring loosely; wrap towel around your head, covering all of your hair.
  4. Cover towel with a plastic cap.
  5. Sit under hooded or bonnet dryer for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Rinse hair, apply Hydrate Quench for an extra dose of moisture and to strengthen hair with soy protein and panthenol. Follow up with Hydrate Seal & Shine to lock in moisture and seal hair cuticle to retain moisture; style as usual.

Tip – Another easy way to treat yourself to more moisture is by placing a humidifier in your bedroom which will add moisture back into the air and your hair while you sleep.

Jane Carter Solution – Guide to Conditioning Hair

Conditioning is extremely important for African-American hair, colored-treated and relaxed hair as it adds the much needed moisture that your hair requires. A weekly deep conditioning provides hair the strength, shine and elasticity that’s needed for healthy hair.

condition_hair_janecartersolutionConditioning regularly gives hair the extra flexibility to stay strong and keeps it moisturized in the harsh, hot weather we will soon be experiencing. It also makes combing easier and styling more manageable. Seems simple enough, right? Well it is!

Try Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner under a heated dryer to maximize your conditioning experience and rinse with cool water to close the hair cuticle. Follow up with Hydrate Quench to seal in the moisture prevent frizziness, lightly mist with Hydrate Seal & Shine to add incredible shine and reduce dryness that may occur due to styling and heat.

Style as usual.

It Was All a Dream…

JC 1986

Have you ever wondered how Jane Carter Solution came to be? What was the journey that led me to create a hair care line? Where do I start…

It was all a dream until 1982; with extreme excitement and unique philosophy about hair, I opened Breezin’ Hair Salon! We were known for our innovative techniques and dedication to caring for hair, but having multicultural staff was certainly the highlight. There were no other salons in the area that could service every woman or man that walked in the door, REGARDLESS of ethnicity. We were cutting edge and obsessed with finding ways to condition and moisturize hair for healthy maintenance!

You can read all about the journey to Jane Carter Solution by visiting the About Jane section of our newly designed website. I’d love to hear any memories you may have from this 31 year journey or about the first Jane Carter Solution product you fell in love with and when on our Facebook page.
