Are You Steaming?

Steaming is a great deep conditioning treatment for hair. Steam treatments are especially effective for coarse natural, locked, or twisted hair which tends to be even drier than relaxed hair. Steaming improves circulation by invigorating the scalp as well as opening the hair follicles and shaft encouraging moisture absorption. The open hair shaft is able to absorb the conditioning treatment which facilitates healthy hair growth.

A great way to re-vamp your wardrobe is to accessorize…and headbands are the perfect accessory for summer!

Hair accessories

For summer 2010, headbands are a must have! They are great to addition to almost hairstyle – either providing summer flair or simply maintaining your locks on those bad hair days. The choices are endless – from easy and casual for day (think bow or flower adorned headbands or even a simple bandana) while opting for glitzy glamour at night (nothing says it better than feathers or sequins). We applaud those creative and inspired individuals, because you will no doubt be wearing a “one of” hand-crafted design of your own!

From flowers to feathers, beads to bows – headbands make simple summer hair care that much simpler and make an ordinary day a little more fabulous.

Jane Carter Solution Hair Care

Say goodbye to cold winds and hello to the warm sunshine! Spring and Summer is the perfect time for a new hair color! 2010 Spring/Summer hair color trends are warm and natural looking, nothing too extreme or harsh.

Blondes – Golden tresses with warm highlights that are well blended. Platinum blond can be hot if done right and kept from looking brassy.

Reds – Natural looking shades of red hair, if you prefer a bolder red go for shades of plum and copper.

Brunettes – Shades of hazelnut, coffee, and caramel with highlights are seamless and well blended.

Color treated hair requires tender loving care…and MOISTURE! Remember, moisture means water not “grease”. Jane Carter Solution has what you need, try:

Cool Water Rinse

cold water and natural hari

Conditioning is extremely important for African-American and/or multi-ethnic hair as it adds the much needed moisture to dry, brittle hair. Using conditioning treatments regularly gives hair the extra flexibility it needs so stay strong in harsh weather. It also makes combing it easier. Try Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner under a heated dryer to maximize your conditioning experience, detangle, and rinse with cool water.

The reason for the cold water is that it seals in the moisture and closes the cuticle. This also helps to prevent frizziness and adds shine to hair. Follow with Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner, style as usual.

Protect Your Hair from Chlorine and Salt during the Summer Months

Protect your natural hair

My favorite time of the year is approaching – summer! I love a bit of summer fun, ESPECIALLY in the water. There is nothing better than taking a dip in the pool or having a family day at the beach…wherever I choose to play; my hair cocktail will keep damage away.

Hair needs to be protected from chlorine, sea salt, and the sun. Chlorine and salt water will dry, discolor, and damage your hair – chlorine binds to your hair, filling in gaps in the hair shaft while the minerals in salt water can make your hair brassy and brittle. The results? SEVERE DEHYDRATION!

The following steps will protect your hair until you get home or back to your hotel room if vacationing.

Summer Hydration Cocktail

  1. Before diving in, completely wet hair with water and Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner.
  3. Dive in!
  4. Immediately rinse hair thoroughly with water and rehydrate with Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner until you are able to shampoo and condition later that same day.

After a day of sun and swimming, I recommend doing the following to take care of your hair and scalp:

Remember to moisturize daily with Hair Nourishing Cream or Nourish & Shine to restore and maintain moisture balance (for your hair and your skin).

The goal is to hydrate, hydrate, and then hydrate some more! It’s imperative to steer clear of synthetic oils such as mineral and/or petrolatum oil, as they further dehydrate hair. Also avoid products that contain drying alcohol and sulfates. Remember, hydration is essential in protecting your crowning glory!
