How Long, is Too Long
We women are serious about our deep conditioning – a day will be preselected, we’ve decided on our deep conditioning snack and what to watch as we detangle. It’s a ritual that is greatly appreciated by our hair. How long do you condition your hair; 60 minutes, 2 hours, overnight?

It’s all about balance, ladies. The goal is the perfect protein to moisture ratio….which means, not over conditioning your hair. 20- 30 minutes will do; the key ingredients that can stick to hair will do so within seconds of applying the conditioner. After 30 minutes from initial application, hair no longer absorbs conditioner. Adding heat assists in the swelling or opening of cuticles, allowing for increased benefits of your conditioner’s ingredients. Mission complete!
All summer I will be stressing the importance of moisturizing your mane, but it’s also important to follow the “everything in moderation” motto. Having too much of a good thing (conditioner) can actually start damaging your locks and cause limp, greasy strands over time.
Love Your Hair,
Jane

Conditioning regularly gives hair the extra flexibility to stay strong and keeps it moisturized in the harsh, hot weather we will soon be experiencing. It also makes combing easier and styling more manageable. Seems simple enough, right? Well it is!
You might care for your hair well during the daytime hours, but you might not give enough thought to caring for your hair while asleep. For most women of color, tying up our hair before bed is a necessary task. Naturally textured hair is already prone to tangles and leaving it unarmed at night, basically gorilla style, is inviting the possibility of even more tangles. While sleeping, you toss, you turn, and it is likely that your hair will get matted and tangled in the process. Again, leading to more sustained damage. Wrapping your hair at night can help your hair to retain moisture and minimize breakage!
