Your Hair Needs its Beauty Rest

How do you care for your hair at night? You may not know the importance of caring for your hair at night, it’s just as important as protecting it from the harsh elements or from styling and primping.

sleepingYou might care for your hair well during the daytime hours, but you might not give enough thought to caring for your hair while asleep. For most women of color, tying up our hair before bed is a necessary task. Naturally textured hair is already prone to tangles and leaving it unarmed at night, basically gorilla style, is inviting the possibility of even more tangles. While sleeping, you toss, you turn, and it is likely that your hair will get matted and tangled in the process. Again, leading to more sustained damage. Wrapping your hair at night can help your hair to retain moisture and minimize breakage!

Make sure your hair is moisturized before you go to sleep…dryness is the enemy of hair, especially natural hair. If you don’t have a silk pillow case you should be tying your hair down with a silk scarf; loosely pull up your hair into a bun, re-twist, re-braid, pin curl it and tie a silk scarf over it. Nightcaps and scarves are especially useful if you have curlier styles. These help to hold the curls while you sleep and prevent them from rubbing against one another and knotting up.

Yoga and Hair Growth

I find yoga fascinating; everything is connected in some way. Improve leg circulation, drain lymph nodes or cleanse your liver depending on the pose. Did you know there are poses to improve hair growth?

Yoga - Jane Carter SolutionIt may sound unbelievable, but yoga can help in preventing hair loss. No, it’s not magic, some yogic techniques are known to increase the blood supply to the head (scalp) and thus promote hair growth; blood circulation specifically to the scalp, which helps produce new cells to any area that may have been dormant due to lack of flow.

These poses also help improve the scalp’s consumption of oxygen as well as the nutrients we intake through foods, drinks and vitamin supplements:

  • Head Stand
  • Diamond Pose
  • Wind Release
  • Camel Pose
  • Rabbit Pose
  • Forward Bend

Add in a little meditation to combat stress and Jane Carter Solution products to keep hair and scalp healthy, and you’ll be well on your way to healthy hair!

Water is good for you!

drinking-water

Health experts use to say that the average person should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily. Now it is said that exactly how much water you should drink each day depends on your size, recommend drinking half an ounce per 1 pound of body weight. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink 75 ounces of water daily. While we may not need eight glasses, there are plenty of reasons to drink water. Fluid losses occur continuously, from skin evaporation, breathing, urine, and stool; these losses must be replaced daily for good health.

10 Reasons to Drink Water Consistently

  • It helps with weight loss/ get full faster with water
  • You get a healthier workout when hydrated
  • It improves the feel, appearance and overall health of the skin
  • It keeps you regular, as it aids the digestive system
  • It helps remove toxins in the body
  • You gain and retain more energy
  • Taking in more fluid reduces water retention
  • It improves the hair’s moisture level
  • It’s free

Need a little assistance with your water intake? There’s an app for that! It helps you track how much water you drink a day, ultimately motivating you to consume enough throughout the day and stay consistent with it as well. Go to the app store on your cell and look up “Hydrate.”
