Your Hair Needs its Beauty Rest
How do you care for your hair at night? You may not know the importance of caring for your hair at night, it’s just as important as protecting it from the harsh elements or from styling and primping.
You might care for your hair well during the daytime hours, but you might not give enough thought to caring for your hair while asleep. For most women of color, tying up our hair before bed is a necessary task. Naturally textured hair is already prone to tangles and leaving it unarmed at night, basically gorilla style, is inviting the possibility of even more tangles. While sleeping, you toss, you turn, and it is likely that your hair will get matted and tangled in the process. Again, leading to more sustained damage. Wrapping your hair at night can help your hair to retain moisture and minimize breakage!
Make sure your hair is moisturized before you go to sleep…dryness is the enemy of hair, especially natural hair. If you don’t have a silk pillow case you should be tying your hair down with a silk scarf; loosely pull up your hair into a bun, re-twist, re-braid, pin curl it and tie a silk scarf over it. Nightcaps and scarves are especially useful if you have curlier styles. These help to hold the curls while you sleep and prevent them from rubbing against one another and knotting up.

It may sound unbelievable, but yoga can help in preventing hair loss. No, it’s not magic, some yogic techniques are known to increase the blood supply to the head (scalp) and thus promote hair growth; blood circulation specifically to the scalp, which helps produce new cells to any area that may have been dormant due to lack of flow.
