Summer Hydration Cocktail

Hair needs to be protected from chlorine, sea salt, and the sun. Chlorine and salt water will dry, discolor, and damage your hair – chlorine binds to your hair, filling in gaps in the hair shaft while the minerals in salt water can make your hair brassy and brittle. The results? SEVERE DEHYDRATION!

The following steps will protect your hair until you get home or back to your hotel room if vacationing.

  1. Before diving in, completely wet hair with water and Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner.
  3. Dive in!
  4. Immediately rinse hair thoroughly with water and rehydrate with Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner until you are able to shampoo and condition later that sameday.

After a day of sun and swimming, I recommend doing the following to take care of your hair and scalp:

Remember to moisturize daily with Hair Nourishing Cream or Nourish & Shine to restore and maintain moisture balance (for your hair and your skin).

The goal is to hydrate, hydrate, and then hydrate some more! It’s imperative to steer clear of synthetic oils such as mineral and/or petrolatum oil, as they further dehydrate hair. Also avoid products that contain drying alcohol and sulfates. Remember, hydration is essential in protecting your crowning glory!

QUESTION: How Do You Define Natural Hair?

Lately, there’s a lot of discussion among black women about what is considered to be truly natural. While these discussions are useful to the extent that we are sharing our diverse opinions with each other but can anyone else define what is natural to me or to you…

How do you define “natural” for black hair? Does it just mean being weave/wig-free? What about people who wear natural looking wigs? What if you don’t have a relaxer, but you dye it? What if you don’t have a relaxer, but you use hair products full of chemicals?

Let’s talk ladies:

  1. What does “natural” mean to you?
  1. Are there any requirements to being considered “natural”?
  1. What does your natural hair represent to you?

Natural Hair + Corporate America = ?

When it comes to natural hair, a relatively hot topic is whether natural tresses are truly accepted in corporate America. We’ve discussed this before but I am interested in seeing if there is a difference from 2 years ago…is your natural hair accepted professionally in a corporate world or are there still environments where it is considered taboo?

Natural hair, braids, twists, and dreadlocks were traditionally considered unemployable based on antiquated beliefs. Many natural hair wearers have felt the brunt of conservative employers who disapprove of “ethnic” hair forcing many to deal with “hair politics” in the office.

Many say we have progressed, is natural hair truly accepted in Corporate America or in your workplace or do you embrace your style and nor fear what others may think?

If you have an opinion about natural hair in the workplace, join in the discussion! We would love to hear about it, please comment below or on Facebook.

Cause and Effect

“Karma doesn’t negotiate.”

What goes around comes around? You reap what you sow? No good deed goes unpunished? Sound familiar….some simply call it “karma”.

Karma, simply put, is action.  It is not unconscious or involuntary action. It is intentional, conscious, deliberate, willful action. It’s basic concept is — good will be returned with good and less than desirable will be returned with less desirable. Karma is a law in Hinduism which maintains that every act done, no matter how insignificant, will eventually return to the doer with equal impact.

If you want to have "positive" results in your life, you need to cause others to have "positive" results. Intend to cause others to have positive results. In the world of karma, your intention to do good is what counts. The actual results are almost irrelevant!

You must be conscious. Ask yourself what you want most and then on a daily basis, write the 3 best things you did to help others get what you want and the 3 worst things you did that caused others to not get what you want.

Take two minutes at the end of your day. Just observe it, be aware. Don’t make yourself wrong for the bad things. Start today because the more you start to apply this law, the more everyone else benefits!
